Nike Inc. was born Jan. 25, 1967, when Bill Bowerman (coach of the Oregon University) and Phil Knight (student of the Faculty of Eonomics) create a brand sports shoes to import from Japan (Blue Ribbon). They chose the name “Nike” of the many proposals made by the 45 employees at the time, because in Greek mythology the goddess of the same name symbolized the victory. The name was suggested by Jeff Johnson, one of the collaborators of Knight. The company logo is instead always the so called Swoosh (created in 1971 in only 17 hours of conception).
Over the years, Nike has become the world’s leading producer of accessories and clothing for sports, especially football, basketball, tennis and many other sports.
